October 2007

WIA Horizons, Vol. 7:1

 Principal’s Message

Let me extend the greetings of Eid Mubarak to all the parents, teachers and students f WIA. The blessed month of Ramadan is just about over. As we say farewell to it , we are thankful to Allah [SWT] for providing us the opportunity to fulfill our obligations during this month and to remember Him continuously.

The month of Ramadan was welcomed at WIA through our new program [Ayah of the Week] at the morning Assembly. Throughout the month, children were asked to memorize with meanings selected verses related to Ramadan. Short explanations were given that were followed up with Jumma Khutbas reminding the children that fasting is not only an abstention from eating and drinking, but also from all bad deeds. In the latter context, it is required for everyone, young and old. A well attended Iftar Party for the entire WIA family was organized by the parents on Saturday, October 6. Everyone enjoyed the delicious pot luck dinner.

One of the important projects during the month was the Ramadan Food Drive. Children were asked to donate as many food cans as possible for the hungry and needy. Three parents were designated to lead this project.

As you are aware, the school will be closed for Eid Al-Fitr on Friday, October 12 Salatul Eid will be offered at the school premises on Saturday at 9: 00 AM. Eid celebrations will be held on Monday during the regular school hours. It will be a no uniform day. However, children must abide by the Islamic code of dressing, wear loose cloths and cover most part of their body. An Eid Card Competition is organized. Children will exchange simple and in-expensive gifts ($1:00 limit). A pizza party will be held with each child buying as many slices of pizza. Some teachers and parents have volunteered for special delights at that time. Classrooms will also be decorated.

This is the first issue of WIA Newsletter for this year under a new name. Sr. Nassiba Benghanem has taken the responsibility of bringing it out on a regular basis. We seek your participation in making it a valuable means of communication among all segments of our community. May Allah accept our humble efforts.
